DRAMA TRIP TO NEW YORK

DAY THREE

We started the day with a stage combat workshop that taught students how to make fights in performance look incredibly realistic - sorry parents!   The workshop ended with a 30minute Q&A session with Brian Gonzales who is currently starring in Aladdin on broadway.

We later enjoyed our lunch at Times Square out in temperatures that felt more like the peak of summer - a very welcome surprise - before heading off to walk on the High Line and stroll through Chelsea market.   Our final night in New York was spent on Broadway watching the fantastic production of Aladdin.

Our final day will be spent in Central Park in the morning before hitting the shops for some last minute spending.  It has been a truly fantastic and unforgettable week for both students and staff, we look forward to coming back and telling you all about it.

DAY TWO

An early 7am rise was followed by a good breakfast which even included some waffles and donuts - good but not necessarily healthy.  We then made our way to the stunning Alvin Ailey dance studios for our contemporary dance workshop which was truly a phenomenal experience. We then went on the subway down to the financial district for lunch by the river before heading to the 9/11 memorial which led to some meaningful reflection for us all.  Despite it being February we have spent today basking in the sun in much warmer temperatures than expected.  This was particularly enjoyable as we travelled on the Staten Island Ferry to get a close look at the Statue of Liberty and take in some great views of the city skyline.  We then went to Ellen’s Stardust diner where we were serenaded by the singing waiters and waitresses and even had a few singalong moments ourselves.   Our wonderful day was topped off with our visit to the top of the Empire State Building. It was truly an amazing day and we can’t wait for tomorrow.

DAY ONE

It was an early but prompt start for all and we left Winchmore on our New York adventure at 4:45am. By 6am we were at the airport and waiting for our flight. After a smooth 7 hour flight we touched down at JFK and headed in to Manhattan.  After checking in to the Heritage Hotel we began to explore the city.  We started by walking to the Flatiron building, up 5th Avenue, took a moment to admire the Empire State Building and the New York public library.  Naturally we then had to have a break so that we could enjoy a slice  of pizza and then continued on to Grand Central Station.

Our night was rounded off with an illuminating visit to Times Square. All of this was before our well earned dinner at Hard Rock Cafe. By 8.30pm we made it back to our hotel where both staff and students felt exhausted and called it a day. Here’s to an action packed Tuesday.
