Welcome to Studio 40+
Empowering Students, Nurturing Confidence, Achieving Together
Studio 40+ in Winchmore School is dedicated specialist provision for students in Years 9 to 11 who thrive in a smaller, highly supportive, and tailored learning environment. We blend academic ambition with gentle, personalised emotional support to create a calm, predictable space where young people feel safe, understood, and ready to succeed.
Who Studio 40+ is For ?
Studio 40+ supports Key Stage 3 and 4 students who benefit from an alternative to the traditional mainstream classroom structure. Our provision is designed for students with a range of social, emotional, sensory, or communication needs, as well as those who have experienced disruption to their education.Through strong, trusting relationships and targeted guidance, we help every young person overcome barriers to learning, rebuild their self-belief, and make meaningful progress toward their personal goals.
Our Curriculum and approach
We combine high academic standards with an engaging, well-rounded experience designed to make school both meaningful and enjoyable. Every student follows a tailored pathway to achieve recognized GCSEs and vocational qualifications at a pace that works for them.
-
Balanced Academic Pathways: Alongside core GCSE subjects, students explore practical and inspiring courses like Travel & Tourism, Media Studies, and Personal Development.
-
Regular Reflection & Well-being: Dedicated reflection sessions are built into the timetable, giving students time to process their learning, celebrate progress, and focus on personal growth.
-
Targeted Small-Group & 1:1 Teaching: Adaptive materials, scaffolded tasks, and individual guidance ensure every student receives the exact level of support they need to succeed.
-
Connected to the Whole School: When ready, students seamlessly join mainstream classes supported by a dedicated Teaching Assistant (TA), maintaining full connection with the broader school community.
Personal Growth & Real-World Experiences
Education at Studio 40+ extends far beyond the classroom. We place a strong emphasis on helping students build self-reliance, self-esteem, and social connections as they prepare for adulthood and life beyond Year 11:
-
Real-World Experience & Trips: We help students develop confidence, independence, and strong social skills through a variety of day outings and immersive residential trips that encourage personal growth in supportive settings.
-
Emotional Well-being: Students learn practical tools for emotional regulation, coping mechanisms, and resilience building.
-
Dedicated Mentorship: Key workers provide consistent, warm guidance, helping students take active ownership of their goals and progress.
-
Life & Study Skills: We explicitly teach organisation, time management, and self-reliance to ensure smooth transitions into Post-16 education, apprenticeships, or training.
-
Enrichment: Small-group creative arts, physical activities, and community outings build teamwork, communication, and lasting peer relationships.
A Flexible Space Built Around the Student
We know a rigid schedule does not suit every learner. Studio 40+ operates with flexible daily structures designed to reduce anxiety:
-
Flexible and phased daily timetables
-
Access to quiet sensory and regulation spaces
-
Staggered lesson transitions and supported social times
-
Dedicated 1:1 and small-group spaces
The best of both worlds
Combining a calm, tailored environment with flexible connection to Winchmore School, Studio 40+ provides a truly integrated educational experience. Students join mainstream classes supported by dedicated Teaching Assistants, ensuring they can access the wider curriculum with confidence. Studio staff collaborate closely with subject teachers and pastoral teams to maintain unified strategies for every learner. By taking part in school events, assemblies, and extra-curricular activities, Studio 40+ students remain an active, valued part of our school family.
Supported Mainstream Lessons: Tailored integration into shared classes, supported step-by-step by dedicated Teaching Assistants.
Collaborative Teaching Teams: Seamless communication between specialist staff, subject teachers, and pastoral leads to maintain a consistent approach.
Whole-School Inclusion: Open access to extra-curricular clubs, assemblies, and campus events to nurture social connections and school spirit.
Partnering with Families
Strong, collaborative relationships with parents and carers are at the heart of everything we do. We view education as a true team effort, where families and staff work hand-in-hand in the best interest of our students.
To ensure continuous, two-way communication:
-
Two-Way Information Sharing: We rely on regular updates from home just as much as we share news from school—helping us understand how students are feeling and adapting in real time.
-
Consistent Contact: We conduct weekly phone calls and maintain open daily channels to celebrate successes, share progress, and address any concerns early.
-
Regular Collaborative Reviews: Structured progress meetings ensure our strategies stay aligned with family goals and each young person's evolving needs.
By working as a unified team, we build a seamless support network that keeps our students feeling safe, valued, and ready to succeed.
Unlocking Potential Through Support
When students feel safe, understood, and truly supported, the magic happens. At Studio 40+, that quiet transformation turns daily challenges into genuine achievement, boosting attendance and reconnecting young people with a real enthusiasm for learning. As anxiety lifts and emotional regulation grows, students rebuild their confidence, develop stronger friendships, and make meaningful progress toward both their academic qualifications and personal targets. Ultimately, we equip every student with the self-belief, resilience, and practical skills they need to step smoothly and confidently into Post-16 education, apprenticeships, or future training.
