At KS5 our intent is to develop learners’ advanced digital, computational and problem-solving skills, enabling them to progress confidently to higher education, apprenticeships or employment in the IT and Computing industries. Our curriculum provides a balanced mix of theoretical knowledge, applied digital literacy and practical experience, delivered in an engaging and supportive environment. Every student, irrespective of SEN or EAL status, gender or ethnicity, is supported through personalised learning that enables them to achieve their full potential.
In IT, students develop key professional skills through the use of spreadsheets, database systems and user interface design. In Computing, learners gain practical experience in web development using HTML, CSS and JavaScript, apply Python programming, and manage system security through user accounts and access controls. This blend of knowledge and applied practice equips students with both the technical expertise and the problem-solving ability required for future study and industry.
We place a strong emphasis on literacy, ensuring students are confident in using subject-specific terminology to articulate their ideas and apply their knowledge effectively. Learning is further enriched through real-world experiences, including a partnership with IBM offering Year 12 work experience and guest speakers from industry. These opportunities allow students to connect their classroom learning to professional practice and develop the skills, confidence and ambition needed for future success.
